About The Position

2026-2027 Dyslexia Teacher Pool - @ Special Education Department ( Internal employees: Set your account to Internal before applying. https://aisd.schoolspring.com/internaljobsettings ) Primary Purpose: Implement district dyslexia program by ensuring that federal, state and district policies/guidelines are implemented and in compliance. Develop and track student’s IEP goals and progress for specially designed instruction for students with dyslexia. Ensure screening, identification, and development of structures and support for students at risk and identified with dyslexia. Additionally, work with campus staff to ensure interventions and accommodations are implemented.

Requirements

  • Texas certification standards required for assignment as set by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
  • Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment
  • Strong knowledge of reading, math and dyslexia instruction across grade levels
  • Knowledge of dyslexia referral and assessment process for Dyslexia Intervention
  • Knowledge of the MTSS/504/IDEA referral process
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated competency of digital-age work, technology, and instructional software
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of professionals and individuals
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in a constructive and positive manner
  • Exemplary organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • ESL certification preferred or ESL certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year
  • Special Education certification preferred or required within 1 year of employment
  • Bilingual certification preferred
  • Three (3) years’ successful teaching or interventionist experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement the District Dyslexia Program, ensuring adherence to Federal, State, and District policies and guidelines.
  • Provide direct services for dyslexia and dysgraphia, as well as Tier 3 interventions, as scheduling permits.
  • Effectively manage time and schedules to optimize instruction and intervention opportunities for students with dyslexia.
  • Train and support at-risk students and those identified with dyslexia in utilizing technology to enhance reading development.
  • Complete any additional training requirements for the position within one year, in accordance with the latest Dyslexia Handbook.
  • Facilitate the dyslexia screening and evaluation process on campus for elementary and middle school students.
  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and collaborate with campus staff to create Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) statements, annual IEP goals and objectives, and specially designed instruction for students with dyslexia and related disorders.
  • Maintain state and district documentation and progress monitoring for students at risk of and currently identified with dyslexia.
  • Ensure all documentation requirements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process at the campus level.
  • Maintain district dyslexia records and documentation.
  • Act as a resource for MTSS, 504, and ARD committees regarding dyslexia and related disorders.
  • Take responsibility for instructional materials and equipment assigned to the dyslexia teacher and the designated school.
  • Assist the department with initial and ongoing professional development for campus staff, parents, and guardians on dyslexia and early intervention topics.
  • Collaborate with campus administration and other providers of dyslexia intervention in planning and implementing instructional support and services for students with dyslexia and related disorders.
  • Attend district and campus meetings to receive training on methods and strategies that improve general reading and dyslexia instruction as well as outcomes for students with dyslexia.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
