About The Position

The Engineer-In-Training II position at the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is designed to assist the Division Engineer in managing and conserving Colorado's water resources. This role involves operational support within the Division 3 engineering group, focusing on water rights administration, compliance enforcement, and public assistance with water court applications. The position requires a strong understanding of Colorado water law and engineering principles, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret technical documents related to water resources.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.
  • Current valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors will substitute for the enrollment as an Engineer Intern.
  • Must be a resident of Colorado by the start date if not already.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Division Engineer in performing functions and duties specified by state statute.
  • Provide operational support to the Division 3 engineering group.
  • Assist the public with water court applications and cases.
  • Analyze water court, SWSP, and EQIP applications and recommend positions for DWR.
  • Enforce compliance with decrees, statutes, permits, rules, regulations, and compacts.
  • Resolve disputes concerning water rights and use.
  • Review technical studies related to water resources engineering and water rights administration.
  • Inform and assist water users regarding water use, rights, and state statutes.
