About The Position

Plans, organizes and directs water distribution operations and maintenance activities of two or more distinct operations and maintenance crews. Coordinates activities with other divisions within the Office of Linear Infrastructure Operations (OLIO or other offices with the Department of Watershed Management); and provides highly responsible field support as needed. This is a highly experienced skilled position who routinely works with the most challenging water distribution system corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance assignments; provides guidance and expertise regarding operation and maintenance of buried water distribution infrastructure and guides the work of others.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience – Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline related to civil or environmental engineering or related major (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
  • 5 years of work experience in water distribution or related area.
  • 2 years of Supervisory experience.
  • Licensures and Certifications – State Issued Driver’s License required.
  • Water Distribution Operator License required.

Nice To Haves

  • 7 or more years of work experience in a large water distribution systems or collection repair projects to include oversight of maintenance activities.
  • 4 or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Class A CDL License

Responsibilities

  • Directs operations and maintenance activities of two or more crews, monitors work execution and ensures effective safe completion incompliance with established rules, regulations and policy guidelines, addresses challenges by securing resources and resolving issues.
  • Collaborates with Directors, Managers, Master Schedulers, and Crew Supervisors to obtain, schedule and complete required work assignments.
  • Maintains compliance with local, state and federal regulations; reviews and provides input on proposed and existing water City specifications.
  • Plans and schedules maintenance programs for repair and maintenance of water distribution system infrastructure and related distribution system appurtenances.
  • Answers questions and provides general information to customers; investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Performs personnel management responsibilities, including ongoing coaching and annual employee evaluations.
  • Prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for staff, materials, and supplies; monitors and controls expenditures.
  • Recognizes common hazards and unsafe conditions that occur at work, their risks, and appropriate controls to address them.
  • Resolves conflicts and addresses work challenges in a timely and effective manner in coordination with assigned manager and director.
  • Adept to responding to utility emergencies and provide communications as needed to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
