About The Position

Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. Since the organization's inception, we have adapted and grown to meet community needs, all while working in partnership with government and private partners and community members. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of DVSH, the Senior Case Manager leads the Domestic Violence Homelessness Prevention Team in providing community-based services to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking and/or human trafficking who are looking to escape abuse. The Senior Case Manager will support a case management team that prioritizes services that focus on increasing safety, maintaining housing stability, and preventing homelessness. The Senior Case Manager will collaborate with the Assistant Director of DVSH to complete screenings, assign referrals, and support case managers in ensuring services are implemented with a trauma-informed, strength-based, and client-centered approach. This position will provide services to a reduced caseload in addition to providing staff supervision.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in social work/human services/related field or commensurate experience.
  • 3+ years of human services or direct services experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities and make sound judgements.
  • Ability to complete tasks while navigating frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to deliver creative, resourceful solutions to unique challenges.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to Drive a minivan.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading/supporting programs serving victims of domestic violence/sexual violence.
  • 1+ years of program and staff management.
  • Experience leading and supporting programs that provide services to clients experiencing homelessness, victims of domestic violence/sexual violence, mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Foreign Language fluency in a language other than English (ex. Spanish, Farsi, Arabic or Amharic).

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Domestic Violence Homelessness Prevention Program.
  • Supervise Case Manager(s) providing mobile advocacy to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and/or human trafficking living in the community.
  • Provide coaching and support to case management team through regularly scheduled one on one meetings and evaluations.
  • Support Case Managers in delivering complex case management for cases that demand higher level solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of DVSH to ensure consistent service delivery that is in line with grant and contract requirements, company policy and procedure, and best practices.
  • Complete regular reviews of client files and VADATA reports, to ensure accuracy, compliance with the Violence Against Women Act, and adherence to agency standards and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements.
  • Disseminate information related to tenant rights and responsibilities, housing discrimination, communicating with landlords, basic unit maintenance, lease compliance, and housing search and location techniques.
  • Develop new partnerships and identify community resources for unmet client needs.
  • Implement and oversee new program initiatives.
  • Verify and approve timesheets and leave requests.
  • Provide case management services to a reduced caseload.
  • Perform in-depth assessments of clients' needs to develop and achieve housing goals.
  • Administer flexible financial assistance to support client goals related to safety and stability.
  • Provide mobile advocacy services by meeting with assigned clients regularly in a safe location in the community.
  • Provide crisis intervention and develop individualized safety plans as needed.
  • Assist victims of violence in filing for protective orders and completing affidavits.
  • Accompany clients to court proceedings and various appointments.
  • Provide housing search assistance to clients by identifying housing leads and assisting clients to apply for units.
  • Establish relationships with local landlords to negotiate lease terms and advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop monthly budgets and provide money management education.
  • Document all contacts with clients in client file and VADATA as required.
  • Provide domestic violence psychoeducation to clients.
  • Empower clients and their household members as they work toward their individual goals.
  • Collaborate with community providers and allied professionals to ensure the delivery of comprehensive wrap-around services.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training as directed by supervisor.
  • Function as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team with Shelter House Inc. employees, deployed staff, and involved agencies.
