About The Position

The Durational Credible Messenger program is a community-based mentoring approach where individuals with shared lived experiences, particularly those with past involvement in the justice system, mentor and support high risk young people aged 13-18. This program leverages the Messenger's credibility and understanding of the community to foster positive change in the mentee. The Durational Credible Messenger provides guidance, support, and role-modeling to help youth navigate challenges, develop positive behaviors, and make healthier choices. They will hold a caseload of three to four youth and families and provide intensive monitoring, facilitate skill-building lessons, empowering families and provide advocacy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED – Required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Driver's License – Required
  • Personal experience with the justice system, involvement with the local community, or overcoming significant life challenges – Required
  • Skill in advocacy and crisis intervention
  • Communication Proficiency
  • Collaboration Skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Develop a therapeutic mentoring relationship with youth
  • Provide group-based skill-building lessons and activities
  • Connect youth with pro-social activities and encourage community involvement
  • Help clients and families obtain proper educational support
  • Keep in regular communication with Probation Officer
  • Submit monthly written progress notes
  • Complete individual service plan and discharge summary documentation
  • Will be accessible as needed to youth and families including 24/7 access for crisis intervention
