About The Position

The Classroom Teacher provides an engaging educational program for students and participates in other school-related activities. This role focuses on delivering a high-quality, bilingual educational experience in English and Spanish.

Requirements

  • Appropriate credentials as required by the Missouri Public Charter School Commission and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Native or native-like fluency in Spanish and English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of all necessary coursework to meet credentialing requirements.
  • Successful completion of a student teaching assignment or at least two years of full-time teaching experience, preferably in elementary education.
  • Strong recommendations from educators who can speak to the candidate’s personal characteristics, interpersonal skills, and classroom performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Dual Language Immersion principles and developing the partner language (Spanish).
  • Successful teaching experience, ideally within a dual immersion program.
  • Bilingual Authorization or equivalent certification in Spanish.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core subjects such as Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Health, Physical Education, Music, and Art, as aligned with the District’s language allocation model.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials based on Missouri Learning Standards and Dual Immersion curriculum guidelines.
  • Implement research-based strategies to facilitate second language learning, including cooperative learning, visuals, manipulatives, and student-centered approaches.
  • Create and implement a rigorous program that builds bilingualism, biliteracy, and an appreciation for diverse cultures.
  • Incorporate instructional techniques that support language acquisition and cultural competency.
  • Regularly assess student progress through a variety of formal and informal assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of academic and social growth, prepare progress reports, and communicate with parents/guardians.
  • Establish and maintain an attractive, functional classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Promote positive student behavior and citizenship.
  • Participate in district training, staff meetings, and Dual Language Immersion professional development activities.
  • Advocate for the Dual Language Immersion program and contribute to its ongoing development, including curriculum design and community outreach.
  • Select and requisition instructional materials and supplies.
  • Supervise students during school-related activities outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate with a team of educators to design and assess curriculum and share best practices.
  • Work with aides, teacher assistants, and paraprofessional staff to support student learning.
  • Participate in school and district committees related to curriculum development and student programs.
