About The Position

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Gallagher Services, a Catholic Charities program, you will help individuals with developmental disabilities live vibrant, meaningful, and independent lives. This role involves building trusted relationships and providing personalized support that honors each person’s strengths, choices, and goals. You will be part of moments that truly matter, from celebrating small wins to encouraging independence. The program is dedicated to ensuring every person has a life filled with meaning, independence, and valuable relationships. You will walk alongside adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they engage in activities they love and pursue their goals. The individuals you will support enjoy watching movies, reading books, going to festivals, going on trips, shopping, and watching cartoons. The ideal candidate is kind, dependable, a good communicator, and enjoys spending time with others, thriving on building real connections and being present in the moment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving experience and no more than 3 points.
  • Comfortable driving agency vehicles and assisting people who use wheelchairs.
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand for long periods, and provide physical assistance when needed.
  • Completion of Medication Technician Training Program (or willingness to complete).

Responsibilities

  • Support with daily routines such as bathing, dressing, and personal care in a way that promotes dignity, independence, and choice.
  • Support people in preparing meals of their choice, encouraging healthy eating habits, and maintaining a clean and comfortable kitchen environment—while promoting independence and personal preferences.
  • Be patient and respectful in action and speaking.
  • Advocate for each person’s rights and help build their confidence and sense of self.
  • Keep clear, respectful records to ensure continuity of care and support.
