About The Position

The DSHS Adult Training Specialist 2 position is a full-time role focused on empowering individuals with developmental disabilities through vocational and community living skill-training programs. The specialist will work under the direction of the Developmental Disabilities Administrator at Yakima Valley School, developing and implementing recreational programs tailored to the needs of individuals. This role emphasizes collaboration within a team and requires active participation in resident care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and successful completion of 15 specific, job-related college credit hours.
  • One year of experience as a vocational trainer of people with disabilities in a community employment program or sheltered workshop, or as a teacher's aide in a special education classroom, or 2 years as an Attendant Counselor, or one year as an Adult Training Specialist 1.
  • 5 credit hours in English Composition at the 100 level or higher.
  • 10 credit hours in at least two of the following areas at 100 level or higher: Psychology, Education/Special Education, Computer Science or Math, Human Services.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating a desktop computer and using Microsoft software programs, including Outlook and Word.
  • Experience supporting people who have intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) by teaching new skills and maintaining skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and as part of a team in a diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, update and implement group and individual recreational programs for people with developmental disabilities.
  • Provide recreational activities that meet the needs of each individual as determined through Recreation Assessments, Individual Care Plans, and Quarterly Reviews.
  • Provide training in Recreation services including skill building, assistive technology, individual and group programs, and social skills training.
  • Set measurable objectives/goals for individuals within your caseload.
  • Collect information/data to write quarterly reviews evaluating the effectiveness of each program.
  • Assist with supplying recreational resources and equipment for residents of the facility.
  • Actively participate in Resident Care Conferences and specialized meetings.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $3,239.00 - $4,865.00 Monthly.
  • Additional 5% premium pay for on-site work at least three days a week.
