The DSC Legal Assistant will provide coverage for Legal Assistants who are out of the office on leave and/or vacation. They will also provide additional administrative support for all attorneys, paralegals, and staff. This would include drafting and revising pleadings, preparing correspondence, transcribing dictation and hearings, and working on document cleanup and formatting per attorney, paralegal, and staff management specifications.

  • Provide backup administrative assistance for Legal Assistants who are out of the office for medical/maternity leaves, extended vacations, or coverage for practice group assistants, special tasks or additional administrative assistance when needed.
  • Provide assistance as a DSC specialist for attorneys and staff with overflow work and special projects.
  • Prepare/revise/redact documents, create Table of Contents/Table of Authorities, scan/convert documents, transcribe handwritten notes or digital dictation.
  • Work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Workshare Compare, various databases, and PDF documents.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, nametags, handouts, and other needs for Firm seminars and events.
  • Assist with eFilings when secretaries are out of office or have multiple filings.
  • Create special reports as assigned like the Daily Docket, Potential Conflicts, and other monthly reports.
  • Resolve document issues and provide just-in-time training when needed to team members and/or staff.
  • Help answer phones, as necessary.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in similar field required.
  • 1 - 2 years of legal assistance experience preferred.
  • Deadline and detail oriented.
  • Ability to type 45+ wpm.
  • Intermediate MS Word skills.
  • Intermediate digital transcription skills.
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel software applications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Table of Contents – manual marking and Styles generated.
  • Knowledge of PDF conversions.
  • Knowledge of PDF Bates labeling and redaction.
  • Ability to problem-solve document issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
