The Dry Dock Helper ensures that the proper tools, equipment and manpower are prepared prior to dry dock operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs dry dock and maintenance work. Duties may include cleaning, washing and painting vessels, lubricating parts and others. Operating forklift for shifting blocks and other equipment for docking vessels. Ensures the safety rules and regulations are being followed in all work. Collaborate with the foremen on materials and equipment status. Perform all other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Maintain a high level of attendance. Maintain a high quality of work. Skills in tug boat assistance, paint procedures. Ability to lay out, build and position keel blocks for vessels in dry dock, layout, erect and dismantle scaffolding for vessels and build install and repair heavy wooden structures and support for marine equipment. Trained and qualified to work in an environment in accordance with OSHA, federal, state and local standards and requirements for shipyard work environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Understanding of HAZHOPER and HAZWAPER rules and regulations. Capable of bending, stooping and ascending/descending stairs or ladders safety without assistance. Lift and carry objects up to 100 pounds occasionally, lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly. Ability to work in confined spaces. Use, select and install conventional and nonconventional fall protection equipment. Knowledge of Gas Freeing, pumping liquids, block setting and docking procedures.
