About The Position

Performs high quality percussion music of various Polynesian cultures for one or more shows. Attends regular rehearsals to upgrade the quality of performance and showmanship, and to increase personal repertoire. Assists in setting the atmosphere for various shows and special events by providing prelude and exit percussion music. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the management.

Requirements

  • Must be able to learn, and subsequently perform, the percussion music of the various Polynesian cultures represented at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
  • Must be able to pass an audition consisting of singing, chanting, and playing one or more of the following instruments: lali, large drum, tin can, bamboo pole, and ipu.
  • Requires good health and a full range of body movement and be capable of moving freely among the guests.
  • Must look Polynesian.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Must exemplify the university Honor Code, including the Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations
  • Students may only have 5 open job applications at a time.
  • All applicants must be available for an on-site interview at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, HI.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Polynesian drumming experience helpful but not necessary.
  • Must attach resume and current semester class schedule (weekly view).
