About The Position

The Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 position at the State Correctional Institution in Forest involves providing comprehensive treatment services for substance abuse to inmates. Requirements

  • One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a 'Certified Addictions Counselor'.
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker.
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
  • A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a Certified Associate Addiction Counselor (CAAC), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), or similar certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive treatment services for substance abuse to inmates in Outpatient and Therapeutic Community Programs.
  • Conduct initial assessment interviews to evaluate individual needs of inmates.
  • Formulate preliminary recommendations for appropriate programming based on assessments.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions for inmates.
  • Oversee or coordinate self-help groups to support recovery efforts.
