About The Position

We are currently seeking a Drug and Alcohol Therapist to join our team at our Parkside Recovery Program in Philadelphia, PA 19131. The Licensed Drug and Alcohol Therapist provides clinical treatment and support to individuals in recovery through individual and group therapy. This role focuses on assessing client needs, developing personalized treatment plans, and promoting engagement while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills are essential to help clients achieve and maintain progress in their recovery journey.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, psychology, addictions studies, social work or related field with specialty or concentration in counseling preferably with experience working with clients who have a substance use disorder diagnosis.
  • Preferably a minimum of one year of counseling experience in a health or human services agency in a drug and alcohol setting.
  • Must be licensed in PA.
  • Must be able to work onsite Monday-Friday: 7:00am -3:30pm or 7:30am - 4:00pm

Responsibilities

  • Strong clinical skills with ability to facilitate group therapy based on identified topics as well as open topics
  • Strong clinical skills with ability to conduct effective individual therapy
  • Ability to assess individuals and recommend appropriate services based on clinical need as well as individuals’ ability and willingness to participate based on what stage of change they are in.
  • Ability to educate and encourage resistant individuals to participate in therapy services.
  • Ability to manage a caseload of individuals and have knowledge of their treatment progress, engagement level, and treatment needs. This also includes strong clinical documentation skills and ability to maintain individuals chart meeting program, local, state, and federal documentation requirements, and standards.
  • Motivation to outreach and re-engage individuals who lack engagement or are missing from treatment.
  • Above average demonstration of core clinical competencies: attending, active and reflective listening, use of open-ended questioning, focusing, building rapport, congruency, summarization, and managing silence.
  • Above average demonstration of - empathy, rolling with resistance, supporting self-efficacy, managing confrontation, and developing discrepancy.
  • Possess ability to establish rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Collaborates and support case management efforts to ensure that every individual in recovery has the necessary linkages to the community to maintain treatment progress.
  • Provides case management services on an as needed basis, if applicable.
  • Effective and timely communication with Supervisors, Case Managers, and Certified Peer Specialists on individuals needs and as resources or obtained and/or changed.
  • Monitor record keeping and authorized units remaining (if applicable), ensure that client charts are up-to-date and include all necessary documentation, including documentation of significant incidents within 24 hours as needed (incident reports) and non-billable activities.
  • Maintain a level of productivity as deemed by the current budget.
  • Provides necessary documentation maintaining clinical efficacy and integrity and complies with the standards set by Merakey, county/SCA, DDAP, and other licensing/regulatory/payor organizations.
  • Adheres to all Merakey, County, State, and Federal policies and regulations related to substance abuse treatment services, ethics, and code of conduct.
  • Participates in regular clinical supervision and continuing education activities to further develop professional skills.
  • Participates in Merakey quality improvement/quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with Merakey’s’ policies.
  • Participates and completes all trainings as assigned, including clinical and didactic trainings scheduled by the designated training center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including supervision of assigned staff and/or interns.
