About The Position

The Counselor is responsible for providing high-quality clinical services to individuals in recovery, including group and individual therapy, case management support, and program compliance. This role ensures effective treatment planning, documentation, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to promote client engagement and recovery.

Requirements

  • Strong clinical skills in individual and group therapy.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment principles and stages of change.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards in behavioral health.
  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, psychology, addictions studies, social work or related field with specialty or concentration in counseling
  • One year experience in a health or human service agency, and in a drug and alcohol setting is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MAT and MMT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions on both structured and open topics.
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions tailored to client needs.
  • Assess clients and recommend appropriate services based on clinical needs and readiness for change.
  • Motivate and educate resistant individuals to engage in treatment.
  • Maintain a caseload, tracking treatment progress, engagement, and needs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with program, state, and federal standards.
  • Outreach and re-engage individuals who are missing or disengaged from treatment.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical competencies, including active listening, rapport building, empathy, and managing resistance.
  • Collaborate with case managers to ensure clients have necessary community linkages.
  • Provide case management services as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, case managers, and peer specialists regarding client needs and resources.
  • Monitor record-keeping and ensure charts are current, including incident reports within 24 hours.
  • Maintain productivity standards as defined by program budget.
  • Comply with all Merakey, county, state, and federal regulations related to substance abuse treatment and ethics.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, continuing education, and quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies.
  • Complete all required trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
