About The Position

The position involves prescribing individual and/or group lessons designed to assist students in learning driver’s education. The instructor will provide instruction to students enrolled in Drivers Education, Workplace Communications, and Career Success Standards (CSS), and will conduct and manage driver’s education classes. Responsibilities include maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere, managing student behavior, coordinating curriculum development with Career Technical Education (CTE) instructors, and ensuring compliance with various guidelines and policies.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Computer literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong knowledge of motor vehicle safety and operation.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and train students effectively.
  • Minimum of one to two years related experience in education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education from a four-year college or university and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified to teach in the state where the center is located (may be waived by Regional Office but must pursue certification).
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instruction in the area of Drivers Education and Workplace Communications.
  • Utilize the WV Driver Handbook, WV State Parent-Teen Training Guide, and Rules of the Road DVD.
  • Assist students with suspended licenses to resolve issues.
  • Promote a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom to ensure maximum student motivation.
  • Maintain discipline within the classroom to ensure effective learning.
  • Establish rapport with students.
  • Coordinate curriculum development with CTE instructors.
  • Prepare adequately for classroom instruction.
  • Maintain students’ folders, recording personal data, test scores, evaluations, attendance, and incident reports.
  • Participate in evaluation of student performance and prepare ESPs timely and accurately.
  • Evaluate student employees’ performance in academics and CSS.
  • Work towards meeting performance management goals.
  • Follow CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily.
  • Assist with quarterly graduation exercises.
  • Adhere to property control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and comply with safety practices.
  • Comply with DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, and Center policies.
  • Model and monitor appropriate Career Success Standards.
  • Help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement.
  • Participate in PRH-mandated staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
