About The Position

Job Corps’ national mission is to educate and train highly-motivated young people, ages 16-24, for successful careers in the nation’s fastest-growing industries. Here at Dayton Job Corps Center, we support their mission by teaching eligible young people, the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. Students here have access to room and board while they learn skills in specific training areas for up to three years. The program helps them to complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, provides transitional support services, and assists them with obtaining employment. Job Corps graduates either enter the workforce or an apprenticeship, go on to higher education, or join the military. Purpose: Reports to the Security Manager. Responsible for operating vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers and assisting with custodial maintenance functions of the vehicle as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Class A CDL Required, Class B is acceptable
  • One year of experience as a driver. Class A CDL Required.
  • General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
  • Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
  • 1-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Must have valid driver's license and adequate vehicle insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Drives center vehicles.
  • Maintains center vehicles in a clean and safe manner.
  • Performs accurate and timely recording and reporting.
  • Transports non-residential students to and from the center.
  • Transports students to and from work-based learning (WBL) and off-center training, activities, and medical/dental appointments.
  • Transports students to and from the Center’s designated arrival point using government-paid transportation.
  • Help security staff with maintaining a log of student and staff accountability when arriving and exiting center.
  • Patrols buildings and grounds to ensure the safety and physical security of buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment.
  • Performs enforcement duties in accordance with federal law, state statutes, and center rules and regulations in order to maintain the peace and safety of students and staff
  • Provides security gate/desk coverage; ensures that proper check-out and check-in procedures are followed.
  • Confiscates contraband, weapons, etc., and delivers confiscated items to the Security Shift Supervisor for proper disposal.
  • Informs staff and students of unsafe practices and conditions
  • Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
  • Reports violations of ethical behavior.
