About The Position

At BHA, Drivers are critical in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of clients, staff, and materials across programs and community locations. This position ensures compliance with all safety, traffic, and organizational protocols while maintaining a respectful, supportive environment for passengers. Drivers serve as front-line representatives of the organization, promoting professionalism, confidentiality, and client-centered care at all times. This role requires attentiveness, patience, and resilience, with Drivers serving as front-line representatives of BHA in every mile traveled. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including maintaining continuous alertness, providing direct supervision, driving individuals served as required, and administering medications as trained Drivers implement supports using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), working in close collaboration with Behavioral Clinicians to carry out evidence-based interventions, skill-building programs, and behavior support strategies with fidelity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of a Missouri Class “E” license with an “S” endorsement, or an out-of-state equivalent, with clean driving record; ability to maintain driver eligibility under company insurance.
  • Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in vehicle inspections, documentation, and client support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management proficiency.
  • Emotional resilience and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
  • Must participate in, prior to hire and annually thereafter, a Human Performance Evaluation conducted by a medical provider of the company’s choosing.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • This position is subject to random and annual drug and alcohol testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience transporting individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or medical conditions preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional driving or transportation support experience preferred.

  • Training in crisis de-escalation or passenger assistance preferred.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving practices and vehicle safety checks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, timely, and courteous transportation of clients and staff.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections; promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and readiness, ensuring a predictable and secure travel environment.
  • Assist clients entering and exiting vehicles safely, including mobility equipment support.
  • Model patience, empathy, and respect in all passenger interactions.
  • Protect confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information during transportation.
  • Follow all traffic laws and organizational transportation policies consistently.
  • Arrive promptly for scheduled routes and complete all assigned trips.
  • Accurately complete logs, mileage, and incident reports.
  • Transports individuals served to appointments, outings, and community activities as required.
  • Uphold high standards in vehicle care, documentation accuracy, and communication with supervisors.
  • Report accidents, incidents, or behavioral concerns immediately.
  • Participate actively in meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development.
  • Engage in continuous improvement by learning new tools, technologies, and practices to enhance transportation services.
  • Provide feedback to improve routing, safety, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with program staff and supervisors to coordinate schedules and transportation needs.
  • Support fellow team members, demonstrating mutual respect and shared accountability.
  • Represent BHA positively within the community, advocating for the dignity, inclusion, and needs of all passengers.
  • Ensure every passenger feels seen, supported, and safe.
  • Perform other transportation or support functions as assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible, either directly or indirectly, for filing all expense reports according to company policy.
  • Directly or indirectly responsible for completing time reports on or before the defined due date.
