About The Position

A Local Driver is responsible for the safe handling and physical movement of our equipment and cargo to and from our customer’s dock as well as various freight carriers within their designated city and/or state.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 23 years of age
  • 2+ years of driving experience in CDL classed trucks in the freight forwarding industry
  • Licensed with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in good standing, with no restrictions satisfy all FMCSA/DOT requirements
  • Holds a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), a current and clean Medical Examiners Certificate (ME Cert), and fulfills all Driver requirements
  • Physically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle as required by Title 49, CFR, 391.41 and company policy
  • Drivers must follow local, state, and federal laws governed by the FMCSA when transporting goods
  • Working knowledge of how to load and safely secure various cargo types
  • Strong working knowledge of dock equipment and forklifts
  • Ability to read and understand transportation documents/labels

Responsibilities

  • Legally meet or exceed our customers’ service expectations
  • May be required to load and unload freight as instructed by Dispatch
  • Properly use dock equipment without exceeding its design limitations, as required
  • Meet all federal, local, and state laws regarding the legal movement of our equipment (including insurance, permits, licenses, and other regulations)
  • Ensure timely and proper documentation and communication of pre/post trips, timecards, manifests, weight tickets, and other associated local paperwork
  • Manage shipment documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), Proof of Delivery (PODs), and security paperwork as applicable
  • Review and report required equipment maintenance
  • Ensure equipment is always secured
  • Timely communication with internal personnel regarding shipments
  • Maintain exemplary professionalism and tact when dealing with internal and external Customers either on the phone or in person
  • Work with manager and co-workers, other stations, and customers to resolve issues in an efficient and timely manner
  • Continually look to recommend better processes
  • Assist in training new drivers
  • Assist Dock in loading/unloading/locating freight when requested
  • Observe and practice applicable TSA policies
  • May be required to be available for on-call support, weekends or extended hours depending on shipment volumes
  • Other duties as assigned
