About The Position

Community Housing Innovations (CHI) is a not-for-profit housing and human services organization that aims to support social and economic independence. Our vision is to end generational poverty and foster upward mobility by ensuring that all families and individuals live in quality housing, have a home of their own, and a job to support them. We believe quality, affordable housing is the foundation for prosperity, personal fulfillment, and success. Responsible for: safely, appropriately, and judiciously transporting customers from CHI locations to various community facilities. Pay: $20.20 an hour- approx. $42,000 annually. Schedule: 10am-6pm Monday - Friday. Location: Eastchester neighborhood Bronx, NY

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required. 3+ years of experience as a Driver (especially in a social service setting) can override the education requirement.
Valid NYS driver’s license and clean driving record.
Proficiency in English required.
make judgment calls, perform proper notifications, and make appropriate decisions.
Ability to relate to the underserved, homeless, and disabled populations.
Work independently or as part of a team, be organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, be flexible, and must be even-tempered.

Nice To Haves

Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Transports customers to various locations specified on Transportation Request with Agency van.
Schedules daily routes, prioritizing trips to HRA, Department of Labor, transfers to/from other shelters and housing appointments for customers.
Maintains van in pristine condition, ensuring cleanliness inside and out.
Monitors and schedules routine maintenance of van (inspections, oil changes, tire rotation, etc.)
Reviews transportation requests with respective Supervisor.
Maintains accurate documentation of runs, logging mileage and destinations.
Adheres to proper use of company resources (cell phones, office supplies, vehicles, etc.).
Must be able to multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details.
Does not fraternize with customers; maintains a professional boundary.
Drives within posted speed limits and ensures that all passengers wear required safety belts.
Does not use cell phone or substances while driving.
