About The Position

This position provides transportation of patients to and from the facility, providing continuous observation, interaction, and role modeling to the patients while maintaining safety at all times.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Maintains a valid CA driver’s license and current medical examination.
  • Must be 21 years or older and have and maintain a good driving record as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Handle with Care and Verbal De-escalation training within 90 days of employment and CPR (training provided in-house).
  • May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Knowledge of all code procedures.
  • Knowledge of risk and safety precautions in the care of patients.
  • Knowledge of operating a motor vehicle applicable to the transportation of patients.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read maps and follow road directions. Ability to use a GPS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult and geriatric).

  • Ability to lift, pull, twist, and stoop when assisting patients.
  • The ability to lift or hold a patient unassisted may be required.
  • The ability to move is required in the delivery of patient care.
  • Ability to work under any weather conditions, inside or out, without regard to temperature.
  • Visual acuity and good hearing is needed for operating a vehicle
  • Ability to read and write English proficiently.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle and follow traffic rules and laws.
  • Ability to respond to exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • The ability to competently and fully perform Handle with Care techniques is an essential position function.
  • Must be able to hear sufficiently, with or without correction, to perform all essential job functions competently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation for patients to and from the facility in a safe manner.
  • Obey all traffic laws while driving company vehicles.
  • Report all van maintenance problems to the Transportation Supervisor and Outpatient Manager.
  • Responsible for the van log, ensuring that the address and phone numbers are updated.
  • Communicate and consult with the Outpatient Manager and other staff members regarding patient care issues and information.
  • Get lunch from the cafeteria and provide to patients, as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean environment for patients at all times.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and sound judgment regarding patient safety.
  • Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries at all times.
  • Address patients, visitors, and co-workers in a pleasant and respectful manner.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
  • Demonstrate appropriate therapeutic boundaries. Consistently follow established procedures.
