About The Position

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking 2nd shift Drivers. The Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator's main function will be safely operating flatbed, box and stake-body trucks within the shipyard as well as to and from off-site buildings. The driver will be delivering and scanning freight to operations in various areas of the facility which results in frequent stops and the ability to exit and enter the truck numerous times per shift. Scanning and delivering material is required in all weather conditions. Other functions of the driver's responsibility will be to operate a high capacity forklift. Some tasks of operating large capacity lifts will be to assist the rigging department with major moves, assisting the plate yard and trades by moving large plates, and loading and unloading flatbeds. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR 2 plus years of related technical experience
  • 3+ years of commercial driving experience
  • A valid Class A CDL license (must present document if selected for the position)
  • Must have or obtain a Hazmat DOT certification within 3 months of being hired
  • Must obtain an Electric Boat forklift license for general service lifts and 17 ton forklift within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical
  • A current DOT medical certificate (must present document if selected for the position)
  • An air brake endorsement (must present document if selected for the position)
  • Must be able to work all shifts and in extreme temperature conditions as required
  • Candidates must be familiar with the safe operating characteristics of various road tractors, trailers, stake body trucks, and high capacity forklifts
  • Will be required to safely operate road tractors tow with 48' flatbed, lowboy or box trailers
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends to satisfy production demands and be able to operate above equipment for extended periods of time
  • Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals
  • Must have strong commitment toward safety and all operating procedures as required by Electric Boat
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently while also in a team environment
  • Applicant must have excellent communication skills and the ability to take personal accountability
