Under direct supervision, assists in the vehicular transportation of elderly and handicapped patients to and from Loretto Hospital, Outpatient Mental Health, Immediate Care of Oak Park and or other designated locations including external partners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); in addition, one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid of State of IL Driver's License
  • Must have full working knowledge of security principles and practices.
  • Full working knowledge of hospital safety procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of body mechanics and transportation procedures.
  • Full working knowledge of city boundaries and locations.
  • Excellent communication skills are imperative

Responsibilities

  • Assists elderly and handicapped individuals into and out of motor vehicles, transport patients to designated areas if needed.
  • Communicates patient information regarding status and problems, to appropriate individuals as directed, communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objectively and non-judgmental viewpoints, aids all internal/external customers as appropriate and/or refers customer to appropriate individual or department.
  • Assures completion of pre-transportation check list, daily, organize work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity and completes own work as required and will assist others as needed, assist in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner and performs all additional functions that may be required (Management reserves the right to add or amend duties at any time).
  • Ensures that patients are informed of appointment and arrival time.
  • Follows preventative maintenance procedures and reports any abnormal condition of vehicles immediately to designated individuals, follows established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Transports bus receipts, cash and other hospital receipts as needed.
  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner completing work assignments.
  • Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards and provide quality improvement which enhance effectiveness and efficiency of department and supports and participates in department quality improvements activities
  • Completes own work as required and will assist others as needed.
  • Cooperates with coworkers and management to maintain a harmonious environment. Adjust work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner. Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
  • Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and policies. Attends mandatory in-service related to safety and/or infection control.
  • Other duties as assigned
