Overview Under the supervision of the Reception and Transportation Manager, the Driver is responsible for providing transportation to Duncaster residents using the Duncaster vehicles as assigned. In between transports, assignments will include delivery of packages or assisting other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • “F” Public Passenger Endorsement for a non-commercial license or an “F,” or “P” for a CDL is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of passenger service – i.e. Uber, Lyft, Limousine driving, or other experience such as transportation needed for deliveries, or packages is required.
  • Maintains a current CT driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Follows all State and Federal driving laws and Duncaster communication policy regarding cell phone use and operates the vehicle according to the Transportation Guidebook.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must have basic knowledge of body mechanics (i.e. ability to assist in transfer of residents from wheelchair to vehicle), and ability to lift wheelchair into vehicle.
  • Must have general knowledge of surrounding geographic area.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when warranted.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to focus on task needs and perform intellectual executive functions as related to the functions of the resident services operation.
  • Ability to execute intellectual tasks and duties under conditions of high demand and distraction.
  • Ability to complete the essential functions of the position with or with adaptive personal devices (e.g., hearing aid, corrective lenses).
  • Ability to operate equipment and technology required for the position.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Able to assist with the evacuation of residents under emergency status to the best of their physical ability.
  • Able to function independently with integrity and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Able to constantly stand, walk, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Able to occasionally push and/or pull a force of up to 20 pounds as relates to wheelchair, packages.
  • Able to reach overhead, bend, and occasionally carry or lift up to 50 pounds and frequently carry or lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Able to work in outdoor elements and in all types of weather.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a vehicle walk around prior to driving and reports any operational difficulties, accidents, or vehicle malfunctions immediately.
  • Reports any accidents, operational difficulties, or vehicle malfunctions immediately.
  • Is reliable and prompt when committed to the driving schedule.
  • Fills gas tank when below half prior to putting away.
  • Cleans vehicle of all debris, turns off heater, AC, radio, lights, etc. prior to putting vehicle away and vacuums or takes care of car washes as needed.
  • Adheres to detailed Resident-Transportation Pick-up guidelines.
  • Maintains positive feedback from transported residents.
  • Carries a radio or cell phone to be in constant communication with the receptionist.
  • Completes and stays current on position required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Voices concerns for residents while transporting residents, i.e., trouble walking, confusion, etc.
