About The Position

The Training and Development Manager is responsible for leading the companys over the road driver training programs and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company policies This role develops implements and oversees training initiatives that improve driver performance safety and retention while supporting operational goals and company growth As part of the above tasks the position will need to put training programs in place for front line managers

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety and HazMat Regulations and principles of Smith System or a similar defensive driving discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse internal and external customers
  • Willingness to travel to support training startups

Responsibilities

  • Develop implement and supervise the companys over the road driver training program which would include front line managers
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies in over the road and dedicated transportation operations
  • Collaborate with Operations management to identify recruit train and support driver trainers
  • Manage processes related to the dissemination completion and collection of training reports
  • Oversee weekly status calls to monitor driver trainee progression with technical learning elements and adaptation to the work environment
  • Communicate safety standards and practices to drivers and management including accident and injury prevention in both the workplace and over the road
  • Supervise monitoring of driver trainer performance through on site and over the road reviews including evaluation rides with selected drivers
  • Partner with fleet management to promote overall safety awareness including driver recognition programs for safe and compliant performance
  • Oversee the development of on site orientation and entry level training for new drivers as well as periodic retraining for existing drivers in response to new account startups or location specific needs
  • Supervise compilation of data used to develop and track metrics for trainer and trainee performance including safety productivity and retention goals
