About The Position

The Driver’s License Specialist is a frontline, public-facing role within the Clerk and Recorder’s Office responsible for administering driver licensing and identification services on behalf of the State of Colorado. Acting as a steward of public trust and an authorized agent of the Colorado Department of Revenue, this position ensures compliance with state and federal statutes, Department of Revenue directives, and public safety mandates governing the issuance of Colorado driver’s licenses and identification cards, and adheres to all policies and procedures established by the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. The Driver’s License Specialist qualifies applicants by reviewing documentation, verifying identity, determining eligibility, and conducting required interviews. This position safeguards the integrity of secure and verifiable identification documents, promotes highway safety, protects the public interest, and manages the accurate collection of statutory fees and revenue. Work is performed with a high degree of accuracy, discretion, professionalism, and adherence to regulatory requirements. Generally, the hiring range is $45,760-$51,617 annually. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted State of Colorado driver’s license at the time of application and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record
  • Must obtain Department of Revenue Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and regular DLF skills evaluations within one (1) year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of customer service, clerical, or administrative experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts driver’s license and identification card interviews to determine applicant eligibility in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Reviews, examines, and analyzes legal documentation to verify identity, residency, and lawful presence
  • Determines whether to issue, deny, restrict, or reinstate driving privileges in accordance with statutory guidelines
  • Performs all required actions associated with the issuance of Colorado driver’s licenses and state identification cards at designated locations including document auditing, data entry, document scanning, finger printing, photo capturing, and cross-agency coordination for customer eligibility
  • Ensures compliance with Department of Revenue policies, procedures, and security protocols to protect the integrity of secure identification documents
  • Provides professional, face-to-face customer service while clearly explaining requirements, processes, and outcomes to applicants
  • Serves the public with courtesy, tact, and professionalism, including individuals who may be confused, frustrated, or upset
  • Responds to applicant questions regarding eligibility, documentation, and licensing outcomes while enforcing statutory requirements
  • Collects and processes statutory fees associated with driver licensing and identification services
  • Handles U.S. currency, checks, and credit card transactions in accordance with cash-handling policies
  • Performs daily reconciliation, self-audits, and balancing of transactions to ensure fiscal accuracy and accountability
  • Maintains a high level of technical and regulatory knowledge through required state training and certification
  • Adheres to all security, confidentiality, and compliance standards related to identity verification and personal information
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of business operations, statutory compliance and department needs
  • All Clerk & Recorder employees may be required to work in the Elections Division in any capacity that is needed during election cycles.
