About The Position

Humboldt Senior Resource Center is looking for a Driver and Production Assistant to support our Nutrition sites and our Meals on Wheels program. This position works 27 to 30 hours a week. Schedule: Monday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Tuesday through Friday: 8:30 am to 2:00 pm JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Title III Program Coordinator, helps the Central Warehouse in Eureka, transports food and supplies from Central Warehouse to outlying nutrition sites, and delivers Meals on Wheels to senior Participants.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, and personal auto liability insurance required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability requirements, and that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.
  • Requires clearance of a DOJ and FBI criminal history background check
  • Requires Motor Vehicle Report verification to determine eligibility of driving record.
  • Ability to drive a cargo van safely.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, neat records and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Proper food handling and sanitary skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and web-based applications such as timekeeping, training, and email programs.
  • Physical abilities for frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of food items, supplies, and equipment throughout the shift. Work takes place in kitchen and dining areas, with exposure to hot food, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures. Regular driving is necessary. Physical stamina and agility are necessary to manage multiple tasks, assist participants when needed, and respond to emergencies. As well as ability to operate a computer, produce reports, and talk on the telephone.

Nice To Haves

  • Food service or customer service background preferred.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of geographic service area preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccines preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Loads and unloads bulk food in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Transports prepared food from the central kitchen to the Fortuna Dining site, Arcata Dining Site, and to additional locations as requested.
  • Collects pans and containers, returns them to the kitchen, and sanitizes them.
  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance records. Maintains clean interior and exterior, ensures presence of first aid kit and fire extinguisher, and performs safety inspections before driving. Alerts Title III Program Coordinator of needed maintenance.
  • Acts as mail courier to outlying sites.
  • Delivers Meals on Wheels packaged meals to eligible homebound participants.
  • Responsible for reporting feedback about Meals on Wheels deliveries and participants to coordinator.
  • Supports and provides positive exchange of information about agency program activities.
  • Participates in the process of teaching, training, and mentoring student interns and volunteers working within the program area.
  • May receive consumables, janitorial, and equipment supply orders from lunch sites. Transports warehouse items to lunch sites as needed.
  • Helps maintain warehouse in a clean and orderly manner, including sweeping, mopping and dusting as requested.
  • Maintains good communication between sites and reports concerns to Title III Program Coordinator.
  • Assists in picking up food and/or supply items that are needed as directed by Title III Program Coordinator.
  • Responsible for sweeping of freezer floors as often as necessary to maintain a clean and sanitary floor.
  • Assists in washing dishes as needed or other cleaning assignments as needed by other Central Kitchen staff or the Title III Program Coordinator.
  • Maintains safe and sanitary procedures according to program standards and policies in all areas of food preparation and clean-up.
  • Participates in training and other meetings as requested.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with agency values.
