About The Position

Under the supervision of the PACE Transportation/Facility Manager, the Driver is responsible for providing transportation services utilizing agency vehicles for Siouxland PACE participants according to assigned routes and appointment schedules. The role includes providing supportive services to ensure the safety of frail elderly participants and delivering supplies and equipment as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate OR GED required OR equivalent work experience.
  • Maintains current CPR status.
  • Maintains current Mandatory Adult Abuse Reporter status.
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required.
  • Proof of Auto Insurance.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Transporting PACE Participants while maintaining a safe driving record and obeying all traffic laws.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of transportation routes in Bettendorf and surrounding communities within the PACE service area.
  • Accurately following the transportation schedule and directions to ensure participants arrive at scheduled appointments on time.
  • Following safety procedures related to the utilization of seat belts and securing wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment on the vehicle.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the physical, mental, and social needs of the frail elderly population.
  • Proceeding on assignments in a timely fashion with limited supervision.
  • Problem solving and planning effectively.
  • Identifying and responding to medical emergencies by calling PACE for help, initiating basic first aid, or calling EMS (911).
  • Participating in after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Assisting PACE participants safely in and out of the vehicle and to/from homes, PACE Center, and medical offices as necessary.
  • Reporting any changes in the participant’s home conditions or health status to the Transportation Coordinator(s) or other appropriate staff.
  • Utilizing effective verbal and written communication skills when working with participants, PACE staff, and contracted providers.
  • Providing a pleasant and comfortable environment where participants feel safe and welcome.
  • Working independently as well as collaboratively with the PACE team and contracted providers.
  • Maintaining the vehicle in good operating condition, including cleanliness, fueling, and performing daily safety checks.
  • Monitoring vehicle maintenance and reporting maintenance/repair needs to the Transportation Manager.
