About The Position

The Driver position at Central Texas Rural Transit District involves providing on-demand rural public transportation services and medical transportation to residents across several counties. The role requires safe vehicle operation, daily vehicle inspections, and interaction with the public while ensuring compliance with agency policies and regulations. The driver will work primarily Monday through Friday, with some services extending to weekends and holidays as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License and completion of a Defensive Driving Course.
• Commercial Driver's License (with passenger endorsement) may be required based on vehicle type.
• CPR and First Aid Certificates.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in public transportation or customer service roles.
• Knowledge of local geography and transportation routes.

Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles to provide demand response curb to curb transportation to residents.
• Aid elderly and disabled passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any issues to dispatch.
• Submit purchase requisitions for vehicle repairs.
• Maintain communication with dispatch via two-way radio or cell phone.
• Clean and sanitize the vehicle interior daily and wash the exterior weekly.
• Sell prepaid fare passes and submit receipts with weekly paperwork.
• Notify dispatch of schedule changes, including no shows and cancellations.
• Maintain a professional appearance and interact with the public in a courteous manner.
• Comply with all Federal, State, and local laws and agency policies.
