About The Position

The Driver Manager at The Custom Companies, Inc. is responsible for overseeing outbound and inbound fleet management operations, including driver dispatch and customer service. This role emphasizes building relationships with drivers to ensure high retention and low turnover, while also managing operational tasks such as monitoring loads, communicating service issues, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • Experience in fleet management and driver dispatch operations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Knowledge of freight movement and geography of the United States.
  • Understanding of DOT and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Ability to multitask and establish priorities effectively.
  • High degree of motivation and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and various software packages.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pricing and cost analysis for transportation operations.
  • Familiarity with safety and maintenance protocols in transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage outbound and inbound fleet operations including driver dispatch and customer service duties.
  • Follow up on all open issues from 3rd shift and assist customers and drivers as needed.
  • Update reports and communicate exceptions to designated management personnel daily.
  • Perform daily turnover with 2nd/3rd shift personnel to review open assignments and issues.
  • Build relationships with assigned drivers to ensure low turnover and high retention levels.
  • Monitor full, partial, and consolidated loads from pick-up through delivery.
  • Obtain signed Proof of Delivery (POD) from drivers.
  • Monitor and recover dropped equipment across the USA.
  • Update status of priority loads on the Hot Sheet.
  • Communicate with drivers regarding pickup and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance for assigned drivers.
  • Communicate service-related issues to upper management.
  • Check in inbound drivers as needed and meet turnover goals.
  • Work with planning to maximize utilization of resources.
  • Manage and accommodate driver home time requests.
  • Coordinate with Safety and Maintenance departments to ensure safe operation and uptime of the fleet.
