About The Position

DRIVER MANAGER SUMMARY Shepherd Oil Company is a family-owned company that places great value on each person in our company. The Driver Manager will have a major impact on the drivers hired as well as their performance during their employment. This person will have a position of leadership within this company and exceptional professionalism and integrity is expected. Expected to be highly skilled in the daily processes and activities involved in driver management and fleet operations. Will be based at the Ponca City, OK yard while overseeing an expanding fleet that currently services Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico.

Requirements

  • 5 years experience in management and leadership.
  • Must possess exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to create, implement and monitor training programs.
  • Must be organized and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must possess at least intermediate computer skills and knowedlge.
  • Demonstrate excellence as an empowering leader in a dynamic, fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives to make best overall value decisions based on considering key factors, cost, customer expectations, driver needs and other facotrs.
  • Solid judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and a proven record of taking the initiative and responsibility in using those skills effectively individually and as a team member.
  • Ability to function well in a high-stress enviornment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and listen effectively with people of diverse opinions and backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the delivery/trucking industry preferred.
  • College degree/certification is preferred (Business Mgt., Operations, Transportation, Leadership).
  • Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Will report directly to the Transportation Director.
  • Communicate and work well with other team members, including Fleet Manager, Human Resources, drivers, Transportation Facilities Coordinator, etc.
  • This position will oversee personnel (drivers) within our transportation division.
  • Maintain knowledge of all open driver positions within Transportation division.
  • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor transport drivers.
  • Will coordinate timely interviews and test drives and present offers for all locations for drivers.
  • Work with dispatch to establish an effective schedule for drivers.
  • Will communicate with drivers regarding schedule, changes to schedule, etc.
  • Handle all driver issues including scheduling, grievances, not turning in required paperwork, etc.
  • Strong in the area of solution management.
  • Manage performance of employees with emphasis on safety, productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate employee job performance, and conduct performance appraisals.
  • This includes all aspects of the discipline process.
  • Will assist in coordination of safety meetings on at least a bi-annual basis.
  • Follow up with drivers regarding online training when there are issues.
  • Maintain communication with Willis Consulting regarding SMS driver reports, training, DOT compliance, etc.
  • Ensures adherence to safety rules and regulations as well as DOT compliance.
  • Makes safety-conscious decisions.
  • Directs investigations into causes of customer complaints and responds accordinly.
  • Lead or assist investigations into accidents, spills, cross drops, etc.
  • Enforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and government regulation.
  • This will include being responsible for administering discipline of drivers.
  • Will be assisted by HR for documentation.
  • Driver Manger will determine level of discipline and communicate that with the driver and review any discipline documentation with the driver.
  • Create and maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Effectively lead the team by setting an example in behavior, championing Shepherd Oil values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.
  • Maintains open, accurate and timely two-way communications with drivers.
  • Invest in each driver as a person and employee.
  • Personable and able to get along with a variety of personality types.
  • Able to build a strong rapport with drivers.
  • Aid in any area where assistance is needed.
  • Will learn operation of cameras and electronic log system, currently Samsara.
  • Communicate effectively in person and via phone and email.
  • Maintain relationships with co-workers, vendors and/or other facilities, as well as other trucking companies and their drivers.
  • Travel will be required between all our transportation locations.
