Requirements

  • Must be able to drive a tractor-trailer for a period of time that will conform to FMCSA requirements.
  • Must be familiar with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Must be registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Must be 25 years of age and have a minimum of two years consecutive driving experience.
  • Must have an acceptable MVR.
  • Must pass a road test.
  • Must be able to operate all safety and operational functions of equipment, including chaining tires, driving manual and/or automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to write routine reports and general business correspondence.
  • Ability to work with peers and communicate basic concepts.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to solve practical problems through standardized solutions that require limited judgment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment FMCSA medical exam and drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operating a tractor/trailer in the transportation of freight following Company, Federal, State, and Local laws concerning run times and FMCSA regulations.
  • Planning routes efficiently and delivering freight on time.
  • Communicating with the dispatch team about scheduling, workload, and route options.
  • Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe working conditions of the tractor and trailer before each trip and at the end of each trip.
  • Overseeing freight loading, ensuring freight limits are not exceeded, and properly securing the freight to prevent damage.
  • Obtaining and maintaining proper delivery authorization and pickup documentation.
  • Maintaining records required with compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Logging hours and distances driven, rest stop durations, as well as all fuel, repair, and toll expenses.
  • Adhering to all FMCSA requirements of those holding a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Complying with all requirements for safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Ensuring security of equipment and cargo.
  • Possibly operating forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Checking gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions, ensuring seal or lock on trailers, and inspecting vehicles before and during trips to determine problems that may be occurring.
  • Promptly reporting all maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision.
  • Verifying unit numbers versus paperwork given and reporting any discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Using in-cab technology, including electronic logs and other items as required.
  • Driving different schedules and working the dock based on business needs.
  • Providing professional and courteous service to customers and the general public.
  • Complying with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
