In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as assessing the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with established safety standards. Your duties will include administering a range of vision tests, such as telebinocular assessments and color perception evaluations, to accurately determine the visual capabilities of applicants. You will also conduct knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses, ensuring that candidates have a thorough understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. Additionally, you will perform pre-trip, skills, and driving tests for both types of licenses, adhering to departmental guidelines. A critical aspect of your responsibilities will involve scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraudulent activity, while also determining vehicle specifications to apply the appropriate tests. Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles to verify compliance with safety features, including inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers. Your role will extend to reviewing a diverse array of documents, such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and various immigration and citizenship papers, to confirm their authenticity. By utilizing multiple systems and databases, you will authenticate identity documents to establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver's license or identification card. This position will require you to identify potential fraud and take measures to prevent the creation of false identities and identity theft. You will also be responsible for processing test results and applications, issuing driver licenses and identification cards to those who meet the necessary eligibility criteria. In addition, you will provide customers with essential information regarding driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the procedures for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial driver's license (CDL), including the various restrictions and endorsements associated with each. Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • This position require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
