Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating the physical and driving qualifications of applicants
  • Assessing the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with established safety standards
  • Administering a range of vision tests, such as telebinocular assessments and color perception evaluations
  • Conducting knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses
  • Performing pre-trip, skills, and driving tests for both types of licenses, adhering to departmental guidelines
  • Scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraudulent activity
  • Determining vehicle specifications to apply the appropriate tests
  • Inspecting motor vehicles to verify compliance with safety features, including inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers
  • Reviewing a wide array of documents, such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and various immigration and citizenship papers, to confirm their authenticity
  • Authenticating identity documents to establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver's license or identification card by utilizing multiple systems and databases
  • Identifying potential fraud and take measures to prevent the creation of false identities and identity theft
  • Processing test results and applications, issuing driver licenses and identification cards to those who meet the necessary criteria
  • Providing customers with essential information regarding driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the procedures for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial driver's license (CDL), including the various restrictions and endorsements associated with each
