Requirements

One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
You must meet the PA residency requirement.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

Evaluating the physical and driving qualifications of applicants
Assessing the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure compliance with established safety standards
Administering a range of vision tests, such as telebinocular assessments and color perception evaluations
Conducting knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses
Performing pre-trip, skills, and driving tests for both types of licenses, adhering to departmental guidelines
Scrutinizing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraudulent activity
Determining vehicle specifications to apply the appropriate tests
Inspecting motor vehicles to verify compliance with safety features, including inspection stickers, lights, and windshield wipers
Reviewing a wide array of documents, such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court documents, proof of residency, and various immigration and citizenship papers, to confirm their authenticity
Authenticating identity documents to establish an individual's identity and eligibility for a driver's license or identification card by utilizing multiple systems and databases
Identifying potential fraud and take measures to prevent the creation of false identities and identity theft
Processing test results and applications, issuing driver licenses and identification cards to those who meet the necessary criteria
Providing customers with essential information regarding driver's license renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the procedures for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial driver's license (CDL), including the various restrictions and endorsements associated with each
