We are seeking a Driver Lead with Class A experience to lead our team of drivers, oversee scheduling, fill in and cover routes when needed, complete admin duties, and deliver training to the team. This role does not have a dedicated schedule or route, so the ideal candidate for this position will have some flexibility and enjoy variety! This position is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck (CDL Class A) locally and out of town, to deliver pet food and supplies to veterinarian, pet and farm channels. Each route makes multiple stops per day and drivers may unload product from the truck for delivery inside customer facilities. In addition to training and coaching the team of 11 drivers, the Driver Lead is expected to be able to perform all aspects of the job as described below including the duties of Route Delivery Driver. Areas of Responsibilities • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections. Complete necessary paper/computer work, clean out truck, sweeping, processing returns, etc. • Safely and efficiently transport product from warehouse/dock location to customer delivery location. • Unload product from the truck using available material handling equipment (pallet jack, hand cart, etc). • Perform deliveries at each stop, completing necessary delivery paperwork or utilizing company-provided mobile device and interacting with customers. • Provide training and coaching to current and newly hired route delivery driver staff. • Act as a back-up contact to the Transportation Manager or Delivery Supervisor regarding delivery issues, vehicle incidents and other driver or customer concerns. • Perform all other duties as assigned. Essential Job Functions • Maintain a valid driver's license for required vehicle type (Class A, Class B). • Must meet the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and medical requirements and possess a valid medical card. Understand and adhere to all DOT regulations regarding safe driving practices, hours of service requirements and drug testing protocols. • Maintain a good driving record in accordance with company's driver performance standards. • Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Work extended hours, as required by operational needs. • Should be able to conduct at least one overnight route per week as business needs necessitate. • Possess excellent customer service skills, communication skills and be courteous and responsive to customer needs. • Promote a safe work environment by following facility and company safety guidelines. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. • Ability to effectively communicate with manager and co-workers. Ability to comprehend and carryout instructions. • Safely operate and become certified in use of pallet jack or other material handling equipment, to unload or load palletized products. • Ability to learn the parameters of all routes for the site to coordinate and assist with peak volumes and overflow situations.
