About The Position

The Driver I position is crucial for the operation of our mission, involving the collection of donations, transportation of gift-in-kind items, and occasionally transporting clients to meetings or appointments. As a driver, you will play a key role in supporting our operations and services, directly impacting our community outreach and support efforts.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Proven work experience as a truck or van driver.
• Ability to drive long hours and occasionally on weekends.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good physical condition and strength to lift heavy items and load/unload cargo.
• Knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
• No recent moving or driving violations.
• Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position

• Empathetic understanding of the needs of the homeless population is an advantage

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a truck and van to collect donations from specified locations.
• Transport gift-in-kind items from donors to our facility, ensuring the careful handling and security of items.
• Occasionally transport clients to and from various meetings, appointments, and programs in a timely and safe manner.
• Maintain accurate records of pick-ups, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance.
• Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
• Plan routes and meet delivery schedules.
• Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with team members and donors to ensure a smooth operation.
• Support other mission activities as needed.
