The Driver Helper teams with a Route Driver and assists in the collection of waste and/or recyclable material. This role requires adherence to WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA requirements, and all local, state, and federal laws. Key responsibilities include immediately reporting unsafe situations, service-related issues, incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. The Driver Helper attends all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings. They are responsible for manually or mechanically loading and emptying residential and/or commercial containers into the truck, which may be staged curbside, dockside, carryout, or require pullout. The position involves operating a hoisting device to lift and empty bins or containers into the truck hopper and assisting the driver with all backing maneuvers while on route. Communication of service interruptions, such as closed streets or heavy receptacles, and customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch is also part of the role. The Driver Helper performs all duties as scheduled and assists other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
