About The Position

At Houston Methodist, the Driver Class C position is responsible for the operation of standard cargo van or utility-type delivery vehicle. The position will handle the delivery of mail, small parcels and equipment to all Houston Methodist facilities and associate entities, which originate from the hospital campus, offsite Distribution Center or corporate buildings. The Driver-Courier Class C includes the delivery of supplies to all Houston Methodist Hospital campuses, offsite clinical care centers, corporate buildings and associate entities which originate from the offsite Distribution Center. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
  • Two years of commercial driving experience
  • CDL-C - Class C CDL License (State) -- valid in State of Texas with no moving violations within 3 years
  • Will be subject to an annual State of Texas MVR review to ensure compliancy
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Must be able to safely operate all powered and manual equipment in the work area.
  • Must demonstrate a proficiency with smart phone or tablet applications used in two-way communications, GPS wayfinding and/or vehicle safety monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Logistics Supervisors and Shift Coordinators to identify all outbound orders and timing of established deliveries.
  • Works directly with Fleet Supervisor and Technicians to determine availability of all fleet assets for defined assignments and considers timelines required for use in other operational work to be performed by drivers on shift.
  • Develops working relationships with customer base and identifies key points of contact for daily transactions on scheduled routes.
  • Forms and maintains good communication and rapport with all points of contact to ensure accurate and efficient means for delivery of mail and supplies to their respective locations.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and consistently models excellent customer service skills while traveling.
  • Completes Daily Vehicle Inspection Report.
  • Documents and reports any recognized deficiencies to the Fleet Supervisor prior to the end of the shift, and provides feedback upon repair.
  • Operates assigned vehicle with the highest of standards and focuses directly on ensuring the safety of themself and others while on the roadway.
  • Maintains a safe driving record within the limits of the established policy.
  • Adheres to all State Department Motor Vehicles (DMV) laws and keeps up with any changes or (current year) updates to the defined regulations.
  • Participates in all safety training offered by the department with specific regard to transportation and warehousing.
  • Executes required financial institution (Bank) transactions according to established schedules and returns all lock box envelopes to designated offices based on defined schedule for completion.
  • Reviews all current road/traffic reports to reduce travel time and increase efficiency, and show effectiveness through documentation of daily trip log.
  • Ensures all fuel receipts are submitted accurately within the time frame and process established by management.
  • Shows a progression toward developing an increased ability to operate different size vehicles to enhance their own versatility to the operation.
  • Shows a level of growth in understanding the operations of the corporate departments and provides examples or ideas on how they could better support the departments they serve.
