It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns. POSITION SUMMARY: Loads and transports both soiled and sterile items between the Manchester Hospital, Rockville Hospital and the Sterile Processing Unit located in Vernon. Reports to the Manager of the Sterile Processing Department. COMPETENCIES · A general knowledge of safe handling practice when picking up, transporting and physically handling bio-hazardous equipment is required. · This position requires the employee drive and sit for a significant portion of the work day, and do a significant amount of lifting and carrying of tote bins weighing up to 50 pounds. · A flexible mannerism is desirable because the location to which they will drive to next can change rapidly due to the sterile equipment needs of each hospital which is predicated by their patient and surgical flow. · Reading, writing and speaking English is necessary in order to understand urgent verbal re-route instructions and to communicate with members of Sterile Processing and other units within each Hospital. · This position requires that the Driver take into consideration the volume of equipment used and the quantity of equipment available to each Hospital when determining their daily driving schedule. · Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, and maintain a driving record free of any violations and pass a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter.
