About the position

To be fully engaged in safely operating Health First vehicles to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients that are discharged from Health First facilities to nursing homes, assisted living and/or patient residence. Adheres to established department performance productivity, I-CARE Values and customer experience standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides courteous, professional service by always introducing self to patient and explaining mode of transport, wheelchair vs stretcher.
  • Safely operates both stretcher and wheelchair. Reports any issues to Manager. Removes broken or defective equipment immediately.
  • Transfers and assists patients onto the stretcher or into wheelchair, ensuring patient is properly secured and the stretcher/ wheelchair is locked and in stable position prior to transport.
  • Transports medically cleared cooperative Baker Act patients. Must have one of the same sex on board with patient.
  • Responsible for care and safe delivery of patient belongings from hospital to destination location.
  • Consistently practices appropriate hand washing before and after each patient encounter.
  • Receives and confirms proper discharge paperwork and handoff communication with RN prior to leaving facility.
  • Cleans stretcher and wheelchair after each patient transport with hospital approved germicidal product.
  • Properly disposes of linen by returning to a Health First facility.
  • Communicates professionally with dispatch and other associates throughout the IDN using proper phone and email etiquette.
  • Maintains vehicle and performs daily maintenance inspections and documents appropriate findings.
  • Fuels vehicle at end of shift and cleans vehicle inside wiping down seats, sweeping floors, keeping vehicle free of personal items and maintaining supplies; washes outside of vehicle.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention class within 6 months of hire
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to drive company vehicles and maintain a current, valid State of Florida driver's license and clean State of Florida Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with patients' families and associates.
  • Ability to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently and successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively assess and evaluate situations to ensure safety for all patients.
  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Attention to detail.
