About The Position

The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities. The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll. The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life. Driver II– JOB DESCRIPTION/APPENDIX RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor FUNCTION: Responsible for the safe transportation of ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals from residence to programming areas.

Requirements

  • Driver II: Current New York State Commercial Driver’s License; Class A, B or C with passenger endorsement.
  • High school graduate or an equivalency diploma preferred.
  • Ability to become certified under Section 19A of the New York State and Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Responsibilities

  • Transport individuals to and from residences and programming sites
  • Performs daily maintenance/safety checks on vehicles.
  • Keeps log of ridership, daily mileage, daily safety checks, and other records as required.
  • Executes emergency evacuations of the vehicle if needed.
  • Reports needed repairs to Mechanic, Transportation Supervisor and/or Transportation Manager.
  • Attend required in-service training.
  • Encourages and guides individuals in developing daily living skills.
  • Intervenes when individuals display inappropriate and/or injurious behavior, implementing approved methods of intervention.
  • Assists in providing a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
  • Understands, identifies, and advocates for individual rights.
  • Provides a positive role model for all individuals that reside in the residential facilities and in the community at large.
  • Maintains compliance with state and federal regulations in areas that are directly related to their job responsibilities.
  • Reports to manager any information pertinent to the needs of the individual.
  • Read and understand all Individual Plan of Protection (IPOPs) for riders.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned by Transportation Supervisor.
