About The Position

Metiri is a trusted analytical lab delivering environmental testing, and we're looking for a Drilling Operator to join our team! This full-time position is eligible for Metiri's comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, paid time off, and 401(k) matching. The Drilling Operator safely operates heavy hydraulic equipment to conduct subsurface investigations and drill soil, vapor, and groundwater samples, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving the company’s mission to promote environmental health and sustainability. This position requires availability Monday through Friday, with typical workweeks ranging from 40 – 50 hours. Occasional night and weekend work may be required. Over the course of a year, Drilling Operators can expect to spend approximately 30 – 45 nights traveling out of town. Metiri covers hotel accommodations and provides a per diem for meals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of direct push drilling (environmental preferred)
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) required, with an excellent driving record for the past 3 years.
  • Safe operation of a motor vehicle and ability to navigate routine hazards of the road.
  • Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and pass pre-employment and random quarterly drug screens.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
  • Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, confirm details, and ask follow-up questions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain direct push drilling rigs (such as GeoProbe) and other sampling machinery/equipment to drill soil, vapor, and groundwater samples for environmental assessment.
  • Install, construct, and develop groundwater monitoring wells, piezometers, or soil vapor probes.
  • Transport drill rigs, trucks, and equipment to job sites.
  • Perform job site setup and teardown, including the assembly and disassembly of drilling equipment and rig setup, following established protocols.
  • Manage loading and unloading of materials to ensure safe and efficient job site operations, which may involve manual labor and working in various weather conditions or near heavy equipment.
  • Maintain open communication with the field operations team and site supervisors to manage job requirements and scheduling.
  • Coordinate with customers and/or other team members on site to confirm details and ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Conduct and document pre-/post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are in good working order.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on rigs, trucks, and other sampling tools.
  • Promptly report any safety concerns or maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and environmental regulations for handling and transporting samples.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, such as daily driver logs, drilling logs, daily field reports, and other job-related documentation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
