About The Position

The Driller Assistant position at a national mining company is designed for military veterans looking to enter the mining industry. The role involves assisting the Driller in achieving optimal production through safe and efficient operations at the drill site. The position emphasizes adherence to safety policies and procedures while providing training and support to junior employees. After completing the necessary training, the Assistant will have the opportunity to advance to the role of Driller.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education required.
• Basic professional level of English language communication skills.
• Ability to work in culturally diverse working environments.
• Ability to work in harsh environments.
• Willingness to work night shifts if required.
• Demonstrable interest and experience in a mechanical field.
• Must be fit and able to perform the inherent requirements of the job.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in mining or drilling operations is preferred.
• Previous experience working in an underground mine environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Driller to achieve optimal production through safe and efficient operations on the drill site.
• Adhere to safe working practices in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
• Assist in providing training and support to junior employees.
• Observe adherence to safe working practices and procedures of Utility Workers, and correct unsafe working practices within the limit of experience.
• Assist with rig moves when required.
• Ensure drill site, drill rig, core, hand tools, and other equipment are kept clean, in operable condition, and tidy.
• Safely handle rods including loading and unloading, lifting, and pulling.
• Under the direction of the Driller, empty and lay out core/samples from inner tubes or percussion samples from the cyclone, including the splitting and numerical layout of samples.
• Assist the Driller with written records of drill metres and other production information.
• Perform general housekeeping duties as requested by the Driller or Drill Supervisor.
