About The Position

The Drill Press Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of drill press equipment used to fabricate precision components and parts utilized in petrochemical manufacturing operations. This position ensures all drilling operations meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations while maintaining productivity targets. Location and Reporting This position is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma; however, periodic travel may be required to support business operations and project needs. The position reports directly to the Shop Foreman Department: Production

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience operating drill press or related machining equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and follow detailed work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of machining processes and measurement techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Vocational or technical training in machining or manufacturing technology.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

  • Set up drill press machines according to job specifications, including proper tooling, fixtures, and workpiece alignment.
  • Operate drill press equipment to drill, tap, ream, countersink, and bore holes in metal and specialty industrial materials.
  • Adjust machine speeds, feed rates, and tooling selections based on material type, thickness, and project requirements.
  • Load, secure, and position materials using clamps, vises, and other work-holding devices to ensure safe and accurate machining.
  • Monitor machine performance during operation and make real-time adjustments to maintain production efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform changeovers between production runs while minimizing downtime.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications.
  • Verify hole size, location, tolerance levels, and dimensional requirements prior to machining.
  • Understand geometric tolerances, material specifications, and surface finish requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supervision to clarify design or production discrepancies.
  • Inspect raw materials prior to machining to ensure they meet project and safety standards.
  • Measure completed parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and templates.
  • Verify compliance with dimensional tolerances, alignment standards, and finish requirements.
  • Identify defects or deviations and initiate corrective action when necessary.
  • Document inspection results and maintain production quality records.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of drill press equipment.
  • Replace worn or damaged tooling such as drill bits and cutting tools.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions or irregular machine performance.
  • Communicate maintenance needs to appropriate personnel and assist with troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Maintain machine readiness to support production schedules.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and petrochemical industry safety requirements.
  • Properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
  • Recognize and report workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, or near-miss incidents.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and job hazard analyses.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with hazardous material handling procedures when applicable.
  • Meet or exceed production targets while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor workflow and material usage to minimize waste and rework.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives including Lean manufacturing and 5S workplace organization.
  • Support production scheduling priorities and workflow adjustments as directed.
  • Complete production records, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate production status, quality concerns, and equipment issues to supervisors and team members.
  • Participate in shift turnover communication to ensure operational continuity.
  • Maintain accurate work order tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas in accordance with company housekeeping standards.
  • Properly store tooling, materials, and equipment when not in use.
  • Dispose of scrap materials and waste according to environmental and company procedures.
  • Support 5S and continuous improvement of workplace standards.
