About The Position

The Drill Helper at U.S. Silica will support the drilling operations at the Lovelock Mine and various sites across the western U.S. This role involves assisting the Driller in operating drilling rigs, ensuring safety compliance, and contributing to exploration and grade control activities. The position requires mechanical inclination and a willingness to learn about different drilling techniques.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to manage heavy equipment (drill rig, support vehicles, trailers).
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and maturity.
  • Enthusiasm and exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Personable and a team player, building effective working relationships.
  • Good listening and communication skills, working well with operations leadership and production teams.
  • Willingness to travel to sites in the Western and Eastern U.S. as needed.
  • Previous drilling or mining experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of drilling equipment and sampling protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe and correct operation and productivity of various drilling rig units.
  • Learn to operate all drill equipment safely and efficiently, potentially taking over Driller responsibilities when needed.
  • Participate in safety meetings and conduct regular safety equipment inspections daily.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding drilling operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized drill site.
  • Notify the Driller, Geologist, or Mine Foreman of any regulatory violations.
  • Report any drilling or sampling concerns to the Driller or Geologist.
  • Follow Work Instructions for drilling procedures and sample collection diligently.
  • Support the Driller in maintaining an accurate driller's log of activities and site movements.
  • Ensure sufficient drilling and equipment supplies are available for operations.
  • Ensure proper operation of water pumps, mud pumps, and water tanks.
  • Maintain and care for all assigned equipment.
  • Assist with necessary paperwork, including maintenance and safety documentation.
  • Keep company vehicles clean and orderly.
  • Assist in reclamation efforts from previous drilling and mining campaigns.
  • Inform the geology team of equipment maintenance needs and supply orders.
  • Help implement positive changes through safety, teamwork, and efficiency.
