About The Position

Magellan International School (MIS) in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a temporary Drama Teacher to cover a leave from August to October 2026 (approximately). This position will work with our Secondary School. The teacher will create a progressive learning environment where students demonstrate critical thinking and uphold the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. The teacher will support students' academic and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Drama, Theatre, Education or related field
  • Demonstrated experience teaching drama and/or performance
  • Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Experience integrating information technology (IT) into teaching
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments
  • Dynamic and empathetic communicator
  • Student-focused, warm, caring, and supportive
  • Passionate about teaching and learning
  • Flexible and willing to work collaboratively with teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Google Workspace, Toddle, and Apple Mac platforms preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans and teaches Drama lessons aligned with the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and/or Diploma Program (DP) curricula, differentiating to meet individual student needs.
  • Instructs students in acting, theatre history, and stagecraft, fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
  • Fosters a positive, creative environment, mentoring students in acting, voice, movement, and stagecraft skills techniques and preparing them for performances and assessments.
  • Attends staff and faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the MYP and/or DP Coordinator on curriculum planning and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with faculty to plan activities, interdisciplinary projects, & disciplinary units.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies and technology to enhance learning.
  • Participates in curriculum planning and student progress meetings.
  • Maintains up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, grades, and assessments.
  • Provides elective classes each semester.
  • Serves as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic and social-emotional development.
  • Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior.
  • Encourages student improvement and goal-setting.
  • Fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Organizes educational field trips to support the curriculum.
  • Supervises students during carline, breaks, and lunch.
  • Prepares documentation for IB external assessments.
  • Communicates effectively with parents regarding student progress.
  • Participates in community engagement efforts and school initiatives to support the school’s growth.
