About The Position

The drama instructor will be responsible for teaching drama/theatre courses, producing productions, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community. Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts, Drama or Musical Theatre, or equivalent qualified performance experience.
  • Two years required, five years preferred of teaching experience.
  • Provide a record of theatre performance experience.
  • Evidence of experience in curriculum development.
  • Ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.
  • Expected to start class on time with room set-up and reset room as required.
  • A working knowledge of music literature.
  • A philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
  • Must be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for teaching drama/theatre.
  • Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught.
  • Teach students’ basic techniques for creating dramatic productions that may include lighting, set design, costumes or any other applicable skill.
  • Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for drama/theatre programming with schools and organizations.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Fine Arts Director/Manager.
  • Organize any necessary placement auditions.
  • Attend assigned staff meetings.
  • Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.
