About The Position

Avenue Kids Camp is looking for a passionate and energetic Drama Counselor to join our team this summer! You'll inspire young performers and help campers discover the joy of storytelling, creativity, and self-expression through theatre arts. Position overview As our Drama Counselor, you will plan and lead age-appropriate drama activities for campers in rising grades 1 through 6. You'll design engaging lessons that introduce foundational theatre skills — including acting, improvisation, voice, movement, and storytelling — while fostering confidence, teamwork, and creativity in every child.

Requirements

Experience in theatre, drama, or performing arts (education, performance, or both)
Genuine enthusiasm for working with children ages 6–12
Strong communication, creativity, and classroom management skills
Ability to adapt teaching style to different age levels and learning needs

Nice To Haves

Background in education, child development, or youth programming
Experience directing or choreographing youth productions
First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver daily drama sessions tailored to each age group (rising 1st–6th grade)
Teach core theatre skills including acting basics, improvisation, vocal projection, and stage presence
Create a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every camper feels safe to participate
Adapt curriculum and activities to meet the developmental needs of different age groups
Collaborate with fellow counselors to integrate drama into broader camp programming
Organize and lead a culminating performance or showcase at the end of the session
Supervise campers throughout all activities to ensure safety and well-being
Communicate positively and professionally with campers, families, and camp staff
