About the position

The Drainage Operations and Maintenance Assistant position is a full-time role within the Closed Systems Storm Rehabilitation group of the Watershed Protection Department. The primary responsibilities include installing and repairing pipelines and concrete structures. This position is designated as an Essential Employee role, meaning that in extraordinary situations or emergencies, the employee will provide services that impact public health and safety. Essential Employees may be required to modify their schedules or be called back to work during such events.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative equipment maintenance and minor repairs to ensure proper operating conditions prior to leaving for the job site.
  • Uses hand tools and operates gas/diesel/propane equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Performs traffic control at job sites, including placing cones, warning signs, and barricades.
  • Builds concrete forms and structures, pours concrete, and performs general road maintenance.
  • Conducts landscape maintenance, including trimming trees and erosion control.
  • Works in storm water management facilities and on stream bank stabilization projects.
  • Participates in emergency response tasks during floods and severe weather.
  • Prepares daily documentation such as trip logs and material requisition forms.
  • Engages in on-the-job training to meet team and department goals.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in maintenance, construction, or concrete work.
  • Valid Class 'C' Driver's License with a good driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with flagging and traffic control.
  • Pre-Trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspection experience.
  • Construction or concrete experience.
  • Experience working around shorelines of large bodies of water with knowledge of boat safety rules.
