Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • Typically 6+ years of related civil engineering experience, with a focus on drainage, stormwater, and/or hydrology.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) certification and ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in storm drain and water quality design on transportation projects (highways, roads, bridges, or related infrastructure).
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or Civil 3D in a production design environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document analyses and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, taking ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables.
  • Ability to work in the Denver office a minimum of two to three days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain in the near term).
  • Experience with CAD and related design software used in transportation projects (Bentley and/or Autodesk). [2]
  • Working knowledge of standard DOT/FHWA drainage, hydraulic, and hydrology standards and practices.
  • Experience with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools such as: SWMM Modeling (EPA‑SWMM, XP‑SWMM, InfraWorks, PC‑SWMM) StormCAD HEC‑RAS HEC‑HMS ArcMap / GIS
  • Experience writing drainage reports for transportation projects.
  • Experience leading drainage design on complex or multi‑discipline projects.
  • Experience on Alternative Project Delivery (APD) projects (design‑build, CM/GC).

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for storm drains, detention/retention facilities, culverts, and water quality (BMP/LID) features.
  • Develop storm drain plans, profiles, details, and specifications in collaboration with senior drainage engineers.
  • Apply current DOT/FHWA drainage, hydraulic, and hydrology standards and practices in design.
  • Prepare technical calculations, exhibits, and drainage reports that clearly communicate your design approach.
  • Manage and delegate daily tasks to junior engineers, providing mentorship and guidance on standard engineering practices and use of CAD drainage modeling software.
  • Coordinate with roadway, structural, utilities, environmental, and other disciplines to deliver integrated project designs.
  • Lead the drainage design effort for local projects as well as segments of larger alternative project delivery projects (design‑build, CM/GC).
  • Implement and champion QA/QC standard practices to ensure high‑quality, buildable designs.
  • Interface directly with clients to address review comments, resolve design issues or constraints, and present technical findings.
  • Support proposal efforts and business development activities by contributing technical write‑ups, level‑of‑effort estimates, and innovative design approaches.
