Job Description We are seeking a skilled and experienced Residential Drain Technician to manage the inspection, cleaning, service, and maintenance of residential drain and sewer systems. This role requires expertise in using specialized drain equipment, exceptional diagnostic skills, and a strong commitment to delivering prompt, effective, and high-quality service to our homeowners.

Requirements

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of residential plumbing systems, drainage principles, venting, and the use of basic drain clearing tools.
  • Tools & Equipment: Proficiency in operating electric sewer machines (snakes/augers) and hand tools relevant to plumbing service.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal communication and professional interaction skills with team members and homeowners.
  • Mobility: Valid state-issued Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, handle machinery, and maneuver in tight/confined spaces (crawlspaces, ditches) and in various weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of verifiable experience specifically performing residential drain cleaning, snaking, and sewer line service is preferred.
  • Advanced Equipment: Experience operating high-pressure hydro-jetting equipment and sewer camera inspections to identify blockages or damage.
  • Familiarity with Trenchless Sewer Repair methods (e.g., pipe lining).
  • Relevant plumbing trade school certification or apprenticeship completion.
  • Current Journeyman or Master Plumbing License.

Responsibilities

  • Drain Cleaning & Unclogging: Promptly and professionally diagnose and clear stoppages in sinks, toilets, tubs, main sewer lines, and secondary drains using appropriate equipment (snakes, augers, hydro-jetters).
  • Video Inspection & Locating: Perform sewer camera inspections to identify the cause, location, and condition of drain line blockages or damage. Accurately locate underground lines and trouble spots.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Provide routine maintenance services, including rooter service and chemical drain treatment application, to ensure optimal flow and system longevity.
  • Equipment Management: Properly operate, maintain, and secure specialized drain cleaning tools and hydro-jetting equipment.
  • Diagnosis & Recommendations: Clearly diagnose drain issues and provide homeowners with effective, appropriate repair or replacement recommendations (e.g., trenchless repair, line replacement).
  • Compliance & Safety: Strictly adhere to all relevant plumbing codes, regulations, and company safety standards, including the proper handling of waste and chemicals.
  • Customer Experience: Clearly communicate diagnosis, service procedures, and preventative measures to homeowners in a professional and educational manner.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete service tickets, invoices, time logs, and inventory tracking for all materials used using company-provided technology (e.g., tablet/app).
  • Emergency Response: Participate in the on-call rotation to provide timely, after-hours emergency drain service to clients.
